Can anyone tell me in what language, if any, "bah-kush!" means "Let's go outside!"? :

My almost 2.5-yr-old spung this on me this morning. He was yelling "Bah-kush, Mama, bah-kush!" :

When I asked him what it meant, he said, "Let's go outside!" I am curious to know whether this is something he's come up with on his own or whether it is an actual language and if so, what language.

Thanks in advance.

I would guess it's a contraction of "back yard."

I would assume that it's a made up word, since that's fairly common ~3 years old.

Unless you have someone nearby who is Russian or Chinese, or you live in a multicultural neighborhood - in that case it definitely might be something he picked up. For instance, if you have a Ukrainian babysitter - I'd ask her!

Thanks, Mamas! He's come up with a few other words that I have to ask him for a definition. It's just odd 'cause he speaks properly and this is something new.

I think around this age, they start thinking that we're making words up as we go along, and that somehow everyone just understands them. So they figure they'll try that out. If my kids make up a word, they say "That's Spanish, Mama." It's just part of getting a greater understanding of spoken language - even if it doesn't make any sense to adult thinking!

YES! Just a few days ago DD started talking about her friend "so and so" and it was a totally made up name! I think one of her friend's name is "Tikka", lol! Isn't is the cutest?
