My sister's kids (not my red-headed sister ironically) are 1/4 Japanese, and have strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes.

It could be a recessive trait. Many Flipinos have Spanish in their roots and many Spanish people have colored eyes.

I'm new to this board, but I'll have a mixed little blessing of my own
come next month! I'm a mostly Irish/Scottish Canadian white mix, and DH
is half Japanese, half Latin Brazilian. I can't wait to see what our beautiful

Wow, crazy. I had no idea what "Hapa" meant until now. I had to look it up at urban dictionary. And hey, I AM one! ROFL!

My children are 1/4 Filipino and 3/4 "white" so not sure what that makes them. But here is me with the family:

Hello Everyone! My little boy arrived!! He was just born January 26th, so it's still a little early to say too much about his looks (they change so fast!) but everyone is already saying he's like a mini version of his papa! He's definitly got his big, dark eyes and his ears!

Here's a pic of DH (Japanese/Brazilian) & I (Irish/Scottish Caucasion)

I had no idea what hapa meant!!! DH is, I guess - he's half Han Chinese, half Australian Irish, but born and raised in Canada. I'm all pasty white and almost 100% British Isles. Our DD is just plain beautiful!

Postpartum doula & certified breastfeeding educator, mama to an amazing girl (11/05) and a wee little boy (3/13).

Im Hapa: Filipino + Tennessee hillbilly/Cherokee hahahaha
My dad was in the military so we lived in a military base in Japan for a while and it was fun living among so many people that were like me...half-asian/half-caucasian.
Then I lived in Hawaii for a while with my husband and almost everyone there is hapa, hence that's where the term came from.
Here in Texas, finding hapa people like myself is not as common.
My daughter is 1/4 Filipino + my part and husband's Irish/Italian heritage:

In Hawaiian it literally means half. It started off as part of a more derogatory term about being half white and not being full Hawaiian.
It has come to mean being half Pacific Islander or Asian and Caucasian.
If you have more than two backgrounds, sometimes they say "mixed plate".
The term is used commonly in Hawaii and California.
