Does anyone know if an Airline is supposed to provide hotel accommodation for freshening up/resting whatever if the transit time at the airport is more than 8 hours? Or no, not really? I knew about such rule longggg time ago...not sure if it still exists.

I purchased a ticket ...from New York to Dhaka...initially the transit time at Dubai airport was 6 hours something...I got an email saying a change on schedule and my second lag of the trip is delayed by 2 hours! So, I was wondering in this case should they (Emirates) be providing me an airport hotel room??

TIA!

In this day and age, most likely not. But if it is not a US Airline you could always ask nicely and see. (ie non US Airlines tend to be nicer about a lot of these things).

nothing more to say I guess :

I REALLY doubt it.

BUT, you could always ask for a free pass to their "premium Lounge".

Most of these lounges have a shower and a nice comfy place to "hang out".

I used to fly internationally a lot and had a lounge membership. After 18 hours in the air a shower feels awesome... and then on to another plane.

Korean airlines do this. But I think the only way you can know for sure is to contact your airline. Even if they don't provide a room for free, they may have rooms available for fairly cheap. Last time I flew I had a one-way ticket and found out they don't provide the room for free on one-way trips, but I still took the room for 50$. It was worth it!

I think there is a rule about then providing a room if you flight gets cancelled or they overbooked and you get bumped or somesuch. I don't know the exact details, but it is a US law so it probably wouldn't apply internationally, and it's only for unexpected delays not expected ones.

You would have to look into the rules of the country that you will be in.

Thanks everyone for replies! I will call and check..it's Emirates airlines! I hope, if they don't provide free accomodation...at least I would get something for a cheap price...or I'll ask about the lounge thing! After 14 hours of flight...don't feel like staying in the airport for 8 hours and then another flight!!

depends on the airline as to what comps they will throw in. some places are cheaper than others. if they do give you something, make sure they note it in the computer so they can't just say the didn't or no one can vouch for someone telling you that.
