Greetings.

I came across these two things on twitter today.  As someone who's been mistreated by a RU person regarding a question I asked, I'm particularly glad to see this.  Also, from reading on a couple of RU lists, it is scary to me the advice I see given on potential medical issues.  I'm someone who likes to get as much info as possible & make my own decisions.  Having seen & experienced the censoring of information/answers (AKA "filtering." wonder what info is filtered for their children irked.gif), this calls for an end to that.

Here's someone's blog post: http://www.everything-voluntary.com/2013/05/its-time-to-unschool-unschooling.html

And, here's a group that has started (I think it's a blog, but they seem to encourage community love.gif). http://ununschooling.com/

I'd also love to hear your thoughts.

Best wishes,

Sus

Sue, thanks for posting this.

I think the idea behind this is great, really. I'm really hopeful that an end can be put to all the unproductive unpleasantness that seems to have been around for quite some time now around unschooling. As an old skool John Holtian, I really feel that we are all on a journey from our own starting points. I think there is a place for discussion of philosophical ideas relating to unschooling, because it is a distinct philosophy, but I think discussing whether people fit or not is really not needed. I want to talk out what best meets my kids needs and our families needs, I have really zero interest in deciding whether anyone else fits any arbitary label.

Just deleted a load of stuff there. I misread the web address. This looks like a great site :-).

ETA I've just done a google search to see what preempted this. I actually can't believe whats been going on in the unschooling world, how much infighting there has been, that actually, in the tiny tiny world of unschooling at all that two factions can even exist let alone be so angry with each other. Wow.

Hands over ears, eyes closed, nanananana, I'm not listening.

I am in denial that anything like that is taking place. I've heard whispers that it does. I was privy to a bit of it in the TCS (Taking Children Seriously) world back about 12-15 years ago. The on-line world can be such a toxic place. I applaud what Wendy is trying to do with the un-unschooling blog, and I've enjoyed the posts thus far, but it pains me to think that there is a need for a stance against rampant negative and factionalizing dogmaticism.

For me, really, this is the first I've heard of it, and  for me I guess its mainly useful to know that people may be understandably extra sensitive around certain issues. Its rather nice, really, though, that this has barely touched this forum.

LOL.  I have seen it and I stay away from it and I generally remain in the closet about unschooling -- just easier that way.

The homeschooling/unschooling forum here has been great in allowing me to explore and develop my educational philosophy without censure.  I am thankful for that.

Would have been nice to meet you guys for tea somewhere in the world!

The beauty of unschooling, for me, is freedom to follow our own paths without worrying if the publicly known faces and voices approve of my way. It's completely against the whole idea/philosophy!

However, it is not at all surprising to me that there is such strife. While we all have our deep passion for freedom in common, we do not all have great diplomacy.
