DS' penis isn't technically buried (I don't think?) but it is close.  None of the shaft itself is on the outside unless he is peeing or otherwise somewhat erect, only about 1/2 inch of bunchy foreskin.  He isn't retractable or anywhere close and doesn't try to retract himself at all.  Really his penis is mostly left alone.

We haven't had a single issue until now.  He potty trained right at his 2nd birthday.  He has trouble peeing down into the toilet and he can't aim his penis because there is nothing for him to poke or grab onto (the foreskin just shifts and makes the pee spray out everywhere.)  He wants to try peeing standing up but it is literally not possible as far as I can tell.

Any ideas about when he might grow out of this and be able to aim his pee and pee standing up?  As it is, he has to learn FAR forward on the toilet to make the pee go in.  Right now I'm just discouraging the idea of attempting to pee standing up because I fear it will lead to great frustration.

I believe in my own research that is totally normal (the spraying) and will resolve on it's own as he become retractable.  I'm curious as to see what other mommies did to handle the situation...my first thought is to have him sit on the potty rather than try to stand....

Have you tried having him stand at all? The dynamics of the pelvis and belly being what they are, it's possible that the seated position draws his penis even further in- and standing up may give him a little more control.

If the penis is buried in the fat pad (most common) then the issue should resolve itself as he looses the pudgy baby shape and takes on a more big kid shape.

If he pushes against the fat pad, while he is peeing, he may be able to aim.  As he puts preasure on the right side, it will allow the penis to move right.  Same for to the left, up and down.

I agree, that standing will probably work better in the long run, though it may be temporarily worse.  Put some floating cereal (Cheerios, store brand fruitloops, etc) into the toilet to use as target practice.  Be prepared for a lot of cleaning up during the learning process.

He isn't quite tall enough to stand and pee in the big potty (he's only 2) so I guess I could start having him try in the little potty if you guys think it might work out.  I'm just glad he is intact as this would be SUCH a pain if he were circ'd!

I'll explain pushing on the fat pad to him and see how it goes, thanks for the tip :)  I'll update once he's tried some.
