Hello~

My husband and I may be relocating to the Burlington area and were curious to know if Burlington tends to be an intact friendly area.  Given it's liberal reputation, I figured there would be a good population of parents that would keep their little ones intact, but the state-wide circ rate is REALLY HIGH :(  Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi there, I live in Vermont in the NEK, and I used to live in Burlington. I think there is a mix of everyone there, but all in all I think it is pretty intact friendly. I met many mama friends there who felt the same way that I did. Burlington rocks by the way. You would love it!

From my observations, how liberal or conservative an area is doesn't bear much correlation to its circ rate. For example, although the liberal West has the lowest circ rate of the four major U.S. regions the Northeast still has a pretty high circ rate. The conservative South has the second lowest circ rate (and based on historical circ rates is the region you'd be most likely to find an American-born adult male who is intact; it's only been since the '80s and '90s that the West's circ rate has plummeted). To put it another way, I think that the most pro- and anti-circ crowds tend to lean liberal (the crunchy hippie types and those who circ for religious reasons) while a lot of the conservative population feels indifferent about circ.

Kelly, a man who is proud to be intact!

Maybe try posting in the tribal area for Vermont?  I imagine you'll want to find a whole-baby-boy knowledgeable HCP, if possible, so there may help.  If you are looking for one & don't get a response there, you may want to try www.theWHOLEnetwork.org; they have a listing of intact knowledegable professionals.

Best wishes,

Sus

Baby the babies while they're babies so they don't need babying for a lifetime.
