Many of you will remember the letter sent out to doctors in Saskatchewan in 2002 that strongly advised against RIC. www.courtchallenge.com/letters/skcoll2.html
The latest available rates for RIC in that province have just come out, and show a drop from 26% in 2002 to 17% in 2003. www.courtchallenge.com/refs/rate1-sk2.html
How's that for progress - a 9% drop in one year !!!!!
Actually, 17% is still a little high for Canada. The last I heard was about 5 years ago when it was 17% nationally and falling. I suspect as a nation, Canada is down around 13-15% now. I also suspect that the death of the baby in August 2002 had a strong influence all across the country coupled with the CPS/Saskatchewan warning about coming lawsuits.
Now, if American doctors would just get out their binoculars and look across the border . . . . .
Although, I must say that I was already impressed when I read SK's policy statement (I think that's what it was,) a couple of years ago, with it's strong language against the surgery, at least compared to the AAP's wimpy scrap of tp.
I've wondered, too, about Canada's rates across the board. Anyone? Guess I'll try to find something on it.

There has always been a faction out there who has promoted circumcision for less than innocent and benign reasons and it is apparent that their activities are increasing. They are seeing the success of the intactivist movement and are striking back.
In the past, it has been with websites that appeared to be informational in nature but on inspection, their proclivities became readily apparent. Now, they are taking the further step of setting up discussion type websites at Yahoo and AOL type areas with the intent purpose of mis-informing parents but not discussing their sickness. To unaware parents who happen upon these sites, the information they present appears credible and they do not discuss their deviant behaviors. They have also previously avoided discussion boards like this one but now they are mounting an attack and are trying to use these boards to dispense their misinformation. Thankfully, in most of the boards like this one, there are sufficient educated voices to successfully counter their efforts.
In this issue, carefully consider everything you read and ask yourself "Does this sound reasonable and logical and does it reflect the bulk of previous information?" If you are at an unfamiliar site and read something that does not match other information, be very careful. The AAP has carefully reviewed all of the available information and has found that circumcision is not a health benefit. If you find something on another site that says differently, be very careful! These people will also try the psychological approach and try to convince you that "look like daddy" and "locker room" issues are important. If you see this, also be very careful. These people can be very convincing to someone who doesn't understand their tactics.
