Does anyone know of any good books on the uncirc'd male? I have a 1 1/2 year old intact ds and I read issues that can come up and I would have no idea how to deal with this. I am looking for info on retraction, puberty and infections and how to deal with them. I feel that I should know some of this so I don't have to go to a doc that will just tell me to circumsize!
Oh, I'm glad you asked. I hope someone can come up with something. I was just thinking about this very thing today; I was thinking specifically about if my son ever needed to have a catheter--how that would work so they wouldn't retract his foreskin. This is the only place I know of to get good answers!!!
These would probably be the best books to answer your questions. You can check out those pages for some customer reviews and more detail. You can also check out www.cirp.org. It has all the medical literature you need on how to take care of your son. I hope this helps!

Hi mama, to answer your question, no the foreskin doesn't need to be retracted to insert a catheter. It will only be necessary to retract to the point of the meatus showing. If your son's foreskin is too tight then the catheter can be inserted through the foreskin's opening and it can be done by feel.
