There's a post over on Celebrity Baby Blog (which yes, I read on occasion about Madonna & her desire to have her son (adopted from Malawi) circumcised, and the boy's biological father's objection. They ask a few questions of the commenters, and it would be wonderful if the intactivists could out-shout the mainstreamers on a blog with so many really mainstream readers. Anyone up for the challenge?

The post is here:Celebrity Baby Blog

I'll post my comment after they post it over there. I forgot to save a copy.

My comment:
Actually, only ~50% of boys in the U.S. are circumcised, and the number decreases each year. The procedure is hardly ever performed on non-Jewish, non-Muslim boys in other western countries. Christianity does not require or even encourage circumcision. In fact, Jesus was circumcised as he was Jewish, not because it was ideal for his followers to be so.

I am a Christian, and will not be circumcising any of my children, boys or girls. The boy's father is absolutely right. A foreskin is not a birth defect, and should not be removed willy-nilly!

The people who do Celebrity Baby Blog often advocate babywearing and they did an awesome photo collection on breastfeeding a while ago. You see ads for cloth diapers and slings all of the time on there too. I commented on the Madonna post.

Yeah, they do. Which is totally cool. But I know a lot of mainstream moms read there, so, hey, why not use the free intactivism opportunity?

The (over-) moderation about religion will only kill this thread, so here's what's on mind before it unfortunately goes down in flames:

Jesus made sacrifices so we don't have to-- circumcision included! Bottom line! No need to circumcise after him. You wouldn't want your children to sacrifice their lives on a cross, right? Circumcision is the same.

That in many countries-- like the Scandinavian countries-- circumcision isn't preformed by Jewish and Muslim followers and everything's Kosher (pardon the pun!!! ) (meaning It's All Good). Madonna doesn't need to do this.
