I might! I thought DC was really far from me but it turns out it's only 4 hours. : Farthest south I've ever been is a few miles into Maryland, so I really have no frame of reference. It'd be a big adventure all around.

We missed the cutoff for the hotel block but I would like to stay Sat. night at least and might try to round up someone to split a room with us. It's a bit rich for my blood.

If a miracle happens, I will do my damnedest to get there. It will take some doing, though.

(PF & I will be the ones dragging our knitting around- you might want to take up the Knifty loom, PF, they'll take your needles away. If Schoen were hanging around, he might not want to be near angry knitting intactivists. The misery that one man has spread!)

I looked at my NOCIRC newsletter and it seems that the dinner is in a separate Best Western than the Best Western that is in DC. Is that correct?

The dates say Sunday, April 2 when April 2 is on a Tuesday. That was the date issue.

I would like to go, but I'd probably be without DH, and that would mean bringing my DS. Thats probably not a good idea.

Several of the NOCIRC people are staying at the Best Western in College Park, Maryland. That is where the dinner and reception will be on Saturday.

Best Western
8601 Baltimore Blvd
College Park, MD

David Wilson usually stays at the Best Western Capitol Skyline because it is within walking distance of the US Capitol. But in my opinion it is in kind of a rough neighborhood.

I just checked Expedia and found several hotels for around $70 a night for two people. The Days Inn and the Ramada Limited in College Park are about a half a mile from the Best Western where the NOCIRC dinner will be.

The William Penn House is a Quaker hostel for peace and social justice workers visiting Washington DC. The cost is $40 per night. I don't know if they still have beds available. It is within walking distance of the Capitol.

Also a Washington area intactivist has offered to let people stay at his house. Send me a PM me for details.

Matthew Hess from MGM Bill and William and Amanda Stowell who were interviewed on the Penn and Teller show are also planning to attend.

People do bring kids. The demonstration is on the West Lawn of the Capitol. It's a good place for kids to run and play. If the weather is good you can bring a blanket and have a picnic or just relax with your children.

The Botanical Garden is very close to the West Lawn for bathrooms and shelter from rain. The American Indian Museum is a little further away.

DH is going to Hong Kong (his grandfather is not well) near the end of the month which has dashed my faint hope of going to DC for this year. I was so hoping to be part of the Canadian group (if there will even be one!) this year.

Thanks for all the great info! Sounds like this family will want to stay in MD. Hope we choose to go! Probably will.

I have not attended this event before. Regarding the demonstration on the west lawn of the Capitol, do people demonstrate with graphic photo signs? I need to decide whether to bring older dd or not. She's a sensitive child and graphic pictures will upset her. I don't think she's old enough to grasp this topic quite yet. (But don't worry, she'll be a fully informed intactivist when the time is right!)

I'm also having surgery soon. Dang. On Monday I'll know more- I was concerned about driving, but yesterday I got some old mail forwarded with a buttload of frequent flyer miles I need to look into. Maybe that was my miracle, I done manifested me a plane ticket.

Does anyone have an estimate on the number of people who will be attending? I've not been before so I don't know.

Here is a link from sic society. It shows photos from past demos so that you can get an idea of past numbers of participants and signs that people carry.

Oops : :

Here is the link for the photos - CLICK HERE

It shows the kinds of posters people have and an idea about numbers. I do not see any recent photos from the past couple years. Hopefully the turn-out will be large.
