"how can mutilating a childs genitals be a work of art?"

"how is porn degrading, but masturbating a childs genitals to circumcise becomes art?"

"thats disgusting...infant penii are not artistic...and the act of mutilating them is definitely not artistic..."

"i cant believe that is even allowed anymore...do you know what they have to do to circumcise an infant?"

of course, you might end up with less friends at the table...but i am not sure i could be friends with someone who accepts that comment...

How about say what you felt and what was on your mind? That her comment nearly made you throw up in your mouth.

I'd be tempted to say the above...that is my gut reaction as well.

I think I'd probably use the opportunity to educate, though. Everyone at that table would have learned more than they ever wanted to know about exactly how circumcision is performed and the fact that the majority of babies don't receive any/adequate anesthetic.

They would also learn about how an intact penis functions, and the way that a circumcised penis is damaged, has lots thousands of nerve endings, etc.

I'd also let them know that it is impossible to say how much penile skin a baby will need, when grown, to accommodate a comfortable erection. I'd let them know that this baby was now at risk for a variety of complications - many of which they, as parents, would never know about, as it was unlikely their grown son would talk to them about having uncomfortable/too tight erections, having pubic hair pulled onto his penis during an erection, losing sensitivity in the glans over time as he got older and the glans become more and more calloused, etc.

They'd have gotten an earful. Hopefully in a nice way, though (although it would have been difficult).

Wow - cutting a child's body as a work of art. It really is enough to make you :Puke

"A work of art"...Hmm...

Over here in intact England we have a delightfully fruitily voiced art critic by the name of Brian Sewell. His views on this issue are fairly strong, focused {as you might expect} on the poor aesthetics and vulgarity of the circumcised penis.

He points out that throughout art history no great artist {from Michallengello to Caravaggio} has dealt with anything other than foreskin-owning penises, even when the individuals they are depicting probably should have been lacking {Jesus, David etc...}

He is a contributor to NORM UK, our version of the original NORM and such a substantial patron that it would probably have proven impossible without his funding.

I doubt he would agree with the paedeatrians assessment, somehow...

{And now: back to self-imposed exile! Bye again!}

That's horrible. PERFECT would have been leaving him intact.

I'm willing to consider it "art", since plastic surgery is an art form, in a way...

...but it's sick and wrong to use a child's body as the sculpting material. Or to think that there's anything ugly or abnormal about an intact penis.

Kudos for the surgeon's skill, but shame on him and the parents for practicing it on an infant.
