I just wanted to post this...

The other day while in the lunch room, the conversation turned to circumsion of our boys....(yes, i know...nice lunch time topic.) Out of the 10 women in the room, only 1 had her son circumcised....the rest of us did not. Now many of these women have sons in their 20s and 30s and some of us have sons between 8 months and 12 years old.

It was nice to know that there are much more women who said no to circ.

State?

Circumcision prevalence is so regional so telling what state or region you're in helps.

But it's good to hear! I'm in my 20s and my mom left me intact.

Bet the one that did is feeling sick - especially if she did it so he would "fit in".

I'm interested in knowing what state also.
Mainly because, DH and I are very serious about moving to a new house/area and we've both agreed we'd be okay moving to another state where circ rates are low as long as the state had no personal state income tax. It looks like WA, FL and NV all fit the bill with no income tax and zero Medicaid funding for circ. However, if the state still has a low circ rate, even if Medicaid pays for it, I might be open to it.

I'm from southern California. The women in my lunch group were from a very diverse backgrounds. One is Cantonese, two are Colombian, one is Native American, one was born in Guatemala but raised in the United States, and the rest of us share Mexican heritage but are American born. The ethnic break down of area of that I grew up is approximately 70% Latino 25% Asian 5% "other." That might explain the higher rate of un-circ boys within our group. Yet my husband's family is VERY PRO-circ and they are also Latino...so who knows?

My baby's doctor said that it seems now that the ratio is 50-50 with uncirc and circ. She chose not to circumcise her own son since she did not feel it was necessary.

Ah ok. Yeah, California is leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the country when it comes to being pro-intact.

Good news to hear though.

So, where are the most recent stats for circ in the US?
I think the "latest" info I've seen is from 2002 or 03.
I know my state (KY) and MI are the two highest-circ'ing states- but does anyone have current info?
