I need some links and information for my exdh. We have been divorced for over ten years, but we have two teenaged dd's together and we've remained good friends. Right now he is having a problem with impotence. He went to a specialist in Boston who said he had a blockage in one of the arteries that supplies blood to the penis. He had surgery to correct this over a year ago, and has been also on testosterone raising supplements. However, he is still impotent.

I was wondering if restoring could possibly help him. He is desperate at this point and I told him I would look into it for him. When I did a google search for impotence restoration I didn't come up with much.

I know someone on this board can direct me to the proper webpage. Frank? And also I'd like your opinion as to whether or not you think restoration could help him. Thank you so much.

Kim,

Try www.norm.org. I think you will find the majority of info that you need there. Frank can probably link you to some support groups too.

Best of luck to him...I can imagine that this has been very difficult for him to deal with.

Kim,

I don't think that his problem sounds like the type of thing that restoration would fix. For some men they lose (or never have) enough sensitivity to make sex pleasurble or worth the effort. In their case the impotence seems from an inbility to get enough nerve feedback to want or to be aroused. They do have a very real physical issue and it has to do with nerve sensitivity.

In the case of your XDH, it sounds like he really has a circulatory problem - I don't know if restoration would help him with that. Maybe more feeling would help get the libido going in some people and that would help with erections, but if he has problem that is not responsive to something like viagra- (you didn't say if he had tried that) I would not imagine restoration would be a solution to cure the problem he is having... although it might be something he ould lik to do ANYWAY... I would hate to mak such a big promise that requires such a HUGE investmnt of time and emotional energy yt offers no guarentee.

I was just reading in a mn's magzine- was it last month's men's health? There had an article about impotency drugs that ar availble in Europe but not FDA approved fo the USA yet (but soon) apparently these drugs will put Viagra out of business bcause they work in different ways... I think there were two of hm- I can't tell you the names... I could look it up if you need me to.

Love Sarah

I should have been more clear. Since he's had the surgery, the ultrasounds have shown there to be no blockages; his testosterone levels are fine, and he does get erections, just not as often as he would like. He also gives himself shots in the penis to induce erection. He is so unhappy and frustrated that I was wondering if restoration could possibly help. I will print out some of the info from the links you guys gave me. Thanks everyone!

Kim:

After reading your first message, I was in total agreement with Sarah. However, after reading the last, I am having second thoughts.

As a man gets older, his sexual drive is less about the biological and procreative part and becomes more about the reward, the sensations. Some men have more and some less and it may be that your ex had naturally less. With the further decrease caused by circumcison, he may have reached "the line in the sand" where there is just not enough of a reward to prime him for the next time. This was the case in my own experience and restoration reinvigorated my sex life by putting back the reward. Before, I was rapidly losing interest and was having difficulty with erections the same as it sounds like your ex is. Now, it is about the same as it was 20-25 years ago and my sex drive and potency is what anyone would consider normal for a 30 year old.

Restoration is certainly an inconvenience and a major hassle but if it works for him, it will well be worth it. If it does work, he should begin seeing a change in about 2.5 months and the improvements will continue to manifest themselves for years. I know of men who have been restored 4 years who continue to report that their sex life is still improving.

Here is a discussion and support board that is the largest on the internet. He should be able to get all of the information and support he needs here:

Tell him there are thousands of guys out there just like him and we are all pulling for him. Best of luck and speedy recovery!
