I've recently wondered if he was done this way because DH went with them to do the procedure. I wondered if the doc was uncomfortable with what he was supposed to do since another man was standing there. I've also wondered if the doc was anti circ and trying to leave him as much as possible, however, i'm sure this is not the case.

This topic of choosing a style is really sad. Just leave your boys alone! Maybe it will dispell the whole looking like dad arguement though if there are different styles and trends with the times.
At least you know now! And you are smart enough to know not to hurt him breaking adheasions. Its sad how many parents just dont know or dont care and are constantly causing their sons pain. I mean, circumcision is bad enough on its own, can you imagine what sort of lasting negative effects constant pain from a parent ripping back the adheasions at each diaper change would cause?!? I just wanted to say good for you!!
My friend has one twin who has bad adheasions and she didnt know not to rip it either. Her ped never said anything to her but when I noticed he had adheasions I told her not to do it. She said she asked her doctor after and she agreed. What the heck? She couldnt tell her that before?! Poor baby! At least she found out when he was only about 6 weeks old and hasnt done it since. Still, he has very bad adheasions and obvious scar tissue (I'm not sure how to describe it but its like instead of it just simply being attached like an intact baby, you can see a thick layer of scar tissue under it and poking out where the foreskin ends).
As to the OP-: : : :

Sadly my ds has some scar tissue as well. I never pulled it back hard enough to seperate, but at the 2 month and 4 month WBV the ped did. (they pulled hard too, he didnt seem real affected but it didnt look comfortable for ANYONE!) I didnt know better. I didnt come to the conclusion of treating it as an intact penis untilright around 4 months. It breaks my heart each time I think of what we've done to ds, i admit I didnt give the topic any thought, we just did it.....: : : : :

From the title of the thread I was imagining styles of cuts like scalloped edges or notched cutouts.

Hey, what about tattooing a few eye-catching bands of color around the shaft? Wouldn't that just be adooooorable? Oh, or maybe something that will react under blacklight...yeah, yeah...that would be totally stylin'. The teenage girls will go crazy over it and he'll be the talk of the locker room...

I agree, but I think of it as NECESSARY for circ-choosing parents to do. They need to know what the results are, other wise we get the, 'Oh, the dr left too much skin on and now we are re-circing'.

ALSO, the various procedures have different results and different outcomes and parents SHOULD be forced to go through and choose which one is the best. Goodness know, do you really want to pick the device that is "More complicated to perform" of the one that cause the "Prepuce sloughs away along with plastic shield in three to seven days"

If this was eye surgery or knee surgery, etc. this information would be practically expected by parents, and offered by doctors.

It is kinda like making parents learn about the pain the child experiences and pain relief options. If you can get through both of these things without realizing maybe you should just instead leave the child intact then maybe you are as close to 'informed' as one can hope, and if you still choose circ.???? Well, I certainly wouldn't understand it.

Here's a comparison from the American Family Physicians of the different circumcision techniques:
From: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m3225/is_n2_v52/ai_17281985/pg_5

Neonatal circumcision techniques
TABLE 1 Comparison of Circumcision Techniques

Procedure Characteristics
Mogen
Induces crush injury to prepuce while shielding genitalia
Prepuce surgically removed

Gomco
Induces crush injury to prepuce while shielding genitalia
Prepuce surgically removed

Plastibell
Induces crush injury to prepuce while shielding phallus
Prepuce sloughs away along with plastic shield in three to seven days

Procedure Advantages
Mogen
Speed
Less complicated to perform
Instant result

Gomco
Instant result with good cosmesis
Widely used
Customized fit possible for each infant

Plastibell
Ease of use
Device widely available

Procedure Disadvantages
Mogen
Least commonly used technique
Fewer experienced operators

Gomco
Higher rate of shaft denudation
More time intensive
More complicated to perform

Plastibell
Slightly higher incidence of infection
Final result not immediately apparent

Can you picture it? 20 years from now, groups of young men showing off the fashionable circ on their penis?
Not unless they're in the porn industry.

Maybe I will give my (imaginary) son a mohawk circ!
Well, you could possibly draw a parallel to all the different "styles" of pubic hair that are "in" for women now. The assorted little tufts and stripes and brazilian waxes and whatever. If you can have designer pubes, why not designer foreskins?

I am, of course, saying this completely tongue in cheek. NOT serious. The very idea makes me shudder. :

Not only is it a matter of the method used, but also the elasticity of the skin and the aggressiveness of the practitioner...how much skin is removed really depends on how far and forcefully the operator stretches the skin and how much the tissue 'gives' before it's clamped or tied off. The amount removed is imprecise and highly variable regardless of which instrument is employed.

And again I add that what it "looks like" depends on the temperature, level of excitement, and age as well!
