After one week of being overdue (during which period I found out that Lucy had been telling her pre-school teacher that the baby was "stuck") I had about had it. On Wednesday at 5 pm Lucy and I went over to the hospital to have a non-stress test and see how the baby was doing in there. She was fine, so Lucy and I drove home while DH cooked a pancake dinner. I pulled up to the house at 6:30 and started to park, which is when my water broke. Exactly two hours later, Ginger Elizabeth was born! We made it to the hospital in time, but our doctor didn't.
It's sort of weird- I spent so many evenings mooning around the house refusing to even start reading a magazine, since I was so sure the baby would come any minute, and then of course the baby comes when there's laundry in the dryer and pancakes on the stove and some stuff I was supposed to do.
She is a beautiful girl; 7 pounds and 12 ounces, born on November 19 at 8:35 pm. The initial meeting between Lucy and Ginger went well, with Lucy laying it on fairly thick; "Baby, you are the star beautifullest!"
So thanks to everybody for helping me through the "sucks to be a week late" era. I knew she'd come eventually, but I maintain that the waiting sucked.
