Well Finnegan turned one month today, and I am finally feeling like my old self (ok most of the time at least). Finn really gave us a run for our money. I went into labor one day before my RSC (yes, he was born and history was made haha) and ended up in the NICU for nearly a week. This was devastating for me. I had written up an "after birth plan" and it was all thrown to the wind. I didn't get to see him until about 5 hrs after delivery and the comment that the neonatalogist gave me (after he told me my baby was going to the NICU) was "its not like he's dying or anything". I was horrified!! This was just the beginning. I was instructed not to touch or talk to Finn because he was "potentially a very sick baby" and it would be too stressful for him, however, when I went to sit with him at 2 am and the night nurse let him cry and cry because she was too busy checking her email that wasn't too stressful? Oh and her way of comforting him was shoving a pacifier in his mouth and rolling a receiving blanket up to keep the pacifier in his mouth so she wouldn't have to get up again when he spit it out!! WTF?? We finally got two wonderful nurses after day 4 in the NICU and that was the first time I got to hold him. And wouldn't you know, that is when he began getting better.... coincidence? Oh, I don't think so. It turns out it was fluid on the lungs or "wet lungs" which is pretty common for c-section babies since there is no pressure on them to squeeze the amniotic fluid out. Anyway, Finnegan is now home and he is nursing quite well, atleast on the right side. We are all adjusting well....for the most part

Stories like that make me ashamed to admit I am a nurse. There is no excuse for that behavior! I am sorry, and glad you are home and holding your baby. Mama is the best medicine!

Glad you're back! I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. It's stressful enough to have a baby in the NICU without insensitive staff making things worse

Good to see you! I'm sorry you went through all that. Sounds like those nurses are in the wrong field.

Not in your ddc...but I just had to reply. Congrats on the birth of you sweet babe! I am so happy that you are at home with your babe and that he and you are doing well. I'm so sorry about what happened after his birth, it brought tears to my eyes

You are one strong mama to have gone through that! Much love and light to you and baby Finn : I am thrilled that he is doing so well and so happy that you two are together. Congrats, again mama! :

Congrats!
I totally understand the horrible NICU nurse problem. When Lexi was in the NICU they wouldn't let me hold her except to feed her and they always were letting the babies cry. I was terrified to leave her because they wouldn't change her diaper until the next feeding and wouldn't pick her up when she cried. I was so glad to get her out of there.

I know what you mean! The nurses were calling him "baby bessey" (our last name) which made it feel so cold. It was like he was just another # to them. When the weekend staff came in it was totally different! One nurse would pick him up as soon as he started to cry and say sweet things to him like "now don't worry Finn, Auntie Camille (her name) is here". She also told me that me holding him was the best medicene.

Thank you for all the well wishes! It feels good to be back
