I can't handle it any more. I now remember why I said with my son that I would never have another child The zofran isn't even working--it works for like an hour or two, and I'm back to being so sick that I can't even function. I'm not throwing up a ton, but the nausea is awful. DH works nights, and he's been waking up around 11, and I stay in bed until he leaves for work around 4. I just can't do anything. I'm feeding my kids crap (okay, not really, probably better than most kids, but crap for them) because I can't stand looking at food to cook. I don't want to hold them because the pressure on my stomach makes it worse. I hate the way I feel. This is the way I felt with my son, and I had it through delivery even. I felt a bit better with my daughter, and it went away around 12 weeks, and came back in my third trimester. I just don't feel like I can make it through the day. I would be in bed already if my kids would go to sleep. I hate feeling this way. This pregnancy had a really rocky start, and I feel bad complaining, like I'm not grateful that the baby is still with me. I am happy, but I wish I could be one of those glowing pregnant women that never have any nausea. I've paid my dues, I just want to feel good this time. Thanks for letting me have a pity party. People who have never experienced this don't understand, so I'm getting a lot of "well, just make yourself eat" or "try ginger ale." Yeah, like I haven't tried that. I lost around 20 pounds with both of my kids in the first half of the pregnancy, and I'm trying to avoid it. I'm on both zofran and phenergan and I'm going to go broke paying for them, and they're not even helping.

Sounds like you're a lot sicker than I was, but I do know the feeling. I lost 10 pounds with this babe. I, too, fed DS just whatever I could throw together that didn't have much of a smell to it...DH was out of town a bit, too, while I was sick and it's just the worst not having any help, isn't it?

I hope you feel better soon!

With my DD I was siiiick from about 10 weeks to 36 weeks - and then I took Diclectin (Canada's pregnancy anti-nauseant). I've started on it NOW this time... I still feel sick. Vomiting has stopped, but nausea is still here and still bugging me.

One thing that keeps making ME feel sick is wearing a bra. The pressure on my chest makes me wanna hurl. So, I've been going around town braless... with a big sweater so it's not so obvious!!!!

I just hate sounding/feeling like I am a big complainer. I WISH I FELT BETTER. I don't want to feel yucky!

So I *do* understand... and I understand how it feels to have others not "get" it. Luckily DH is TRYING to understand... I know he has no experience to relate to this!! And I think my feeling sick is actually turning my 19month old DD into a compassionate toddler. She seems to know mommy is not feeling well and will sit beside me calmly when I can't seem to move!

I'm sorry you are so sick. Hopefully it will go away some time or you will start to feel better.

I don't think I'm as bad as you are this time, but I'm with you. I had it a lot worse with my last kiddo. It's terrible. I don't want to do anything because I don't have the energy because I can't eat. I started taking Zofran right away before the sickness even hit this time but it's not helping at all. I can't even take the pills anymore so the midwife gave me a script for the kind that melt in your mouth. I've had to cut back at work to only three days because I just can't handle it.

I understand how you feel, unfortunately I spent three days in the hospital last week for extreme dehydration because of the nausea and some vomiting. I was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravida (HG). A friend of mine has HG with every single one of her pregnancies, from around 5 weeks till delivery...she's pregnant with her 5th now! Hers is WAAAAYYY worse, though.

I was on a PICC line a zofran pump and IV fluids the end of last week and all weekend. The zofran didn't help AT ALL. So they put me on oral reglan and oral phenergan. The past couple days have been really rough again, but those are helping the most. I also take Unisom at night so I can sleep through the night and not wake up incredibly nauseous every thirty minutes like I used to. I tried taking even half a unisom in the morning but I HATED how groggy and sleepy I was. If I didn't have any other children it might be o.k.

I would highly recommend going to the HG website, if you haven't already.

www.hyperemesis.org

And maybe see if you can try reglan and phenergan. I know some moms with HG just don't feel anything from zofran. Some moms have phenergan pumps. I know last night I was feeling so sick I was begging DH to remind me of this when I tell him I want another baby. It's so hard because I didn't get this AT ALL with my other DC. My pregnancy was so far from hard. No cravings, no indigestion, no hemmorhoids, no constipation, no sciatica pain, no back pain, no trouble sleeping, and barely any nausea, and what I did have went away after the first trimester.

I'm hoping and praying this goes away soon...for everyone dealing with it, including me!

Oh, I am in the same boat goodheartedmama!!! It is awful. I was in the hospital on Tuesday because I couldn't keep anything in, they gave me an IV and so zofran....it didn't work! I don't talk on the phone anymore because I don't want to make everyone else miserable with my complaining. DH works evenings so when I'm home he's not and vice versa. I will be quite honest, we are living on takeout and leftovers.

And you're right people don't understand! I had a friend of mine tell me "just don't think about it, don't dwell on it and you'll feel better!" aaaahhhhh!

So anyway,: sent to you! Hopefully we all will be feeling better soon!

I'm not to the point of hospital...I can drink, not nearly as much as I probably should, but enough to keep me hydrated. Eating's a joke, but I can eat occasionally.

so sick here too. if this lasts beyond 12 weeks i will not know what to do. why oh why would people stay sick the entire pregnancy? that seems so unfair and anti-evolutionary, like how would our species have healthy offspring if the moms cant eat???

anyways i am just praying that mss goes away at 11 or 12 weeks. i have literally been spewing, like exorcist syle at any random moment, usually this happens every 1-2 days where its just uncontrollable projectile vomitting. the rest of the time i just feel like crap.

i too tried zofran to no effect whatsoever, i have an rx for reglan... maybe ill try it.

. I told DH yesterday that I never want to be pregnant again. I said it with DS, and I now remember why. At least with him, I didn't have other kids to care for. Like I said, I spend every moment I can in bed, and the rest of the day is a joke. My babies are totally worth the sickness, but it's too hard to be sick while also trying to be a good mother.

I hope you're feeling better soon. I am hoping I'm having another girl, only because I want my nausea gone sooner. Of course, that may not be the case even if it's a girl, but it was true with my daughter. I just want it to be over

I used to tell dh that if he wanted to be sure we never had more children, just make sure I get the stomach flu at least a couple of times a year. Clearly, that didn't happen!

OMG, I'd forgotten how horrible this is! I don't even think it's as bad as it was last time; I'm only vomiting 3-4 times a day now and I think it was more frequent w/ my first pg. I just feel so damn awful all the time. I'm trying to eat foods w/ high water content, because I just can't drink. The only liquid I can handle is soda - ick, but at least I'm staying hydrated. I need the sugary taste to cut through the bitter nauseous taste. I've had two days now where I've had a migraine on top of the ms and I just want to die. Last time, it got SOO much better by about 16 weeks, so I'm hoping for the same!

I'm taking the prescription version of unisom and B6. Without it I have 24 hour nausea, no vomiting, but non-stop nausea that never goes away and leaves me basically unable to function. with it, as long as I maintain the dosage schedule (20 mg at night, 10 in the am and 10 at lunch time) the nausea is under control almost all the time. Diclectin (the prescription version of unisom and b6) is the most studied medication during pregnancy and is considered a Class A drug for use during pregnancy (class A being safe). Anyway, if you haven't tried it, maybe it's worth a shot? I don't think it works for everyone, but for me I would say it's been about 95% effective--I still feel some nausea very occasionally, especially if I've been slightly late taking one of the daytime doses.

I take unisom at night sometimes. But I'm afraid to take it during the day in case I need to drive. Can you drive while taking it?

I'm really sick too, my last pg I lost 30 lbs, this time I've only lost 12, not too bad. The one thing they tried with me this time which seems to help is IV push B6 vitamin. Maybe something you can try? I get a little bit of relief from zofran, but not much. and I hear you, I'm SOOOO tired of all the have you tried x, y, or z?? And you're STILL sick! Yeah, I'm still sick, it lasted 20 weeks last time it's only week 11 come on!! Okay, sorry for the rant, I'm just sick of being sick!!

oh yeah, and I'm pretty sure that the active ingredient in unisom is the same as benedryl, diphydramine hcl (sp?) so if you feel comfortable taking benedryl in the daytime, you should be fine with unisom

The unisom tabs are doxylamine. Theres a pretty good page about the various medications at the hyperemesis site mentioned by a pp:

http://www.hyperemesis.org/mothers/t...edications.php

The mian difference between unisom tabs and diclectin is that diclectin is a timed release formula, while unisom isn't. They have the same main ingredient, doxylamine. I haven't found myself more drowsy than usual using diclectin, but I can't actually say about unisom, because I haven't take it, even though the main ingredient is the same.

The link I put in above does say that women susceptible to motion sickness seem to benefit most from diclectin (or doxylamine) and other antihistamines (and they do have benadryl included there, with the main ingredient of Diphenhydramine). Since I am someone who suffers from motion sickness, maybe that's why the diclectin works so well for me.

question--is it possible for hormone changes resulting from sex to make nausea worse the next day? There have been 3 days this week that I've felt okay through the day, and we've had sex, and the next days have been so terrible I can't see straight. I can't figure out if it's just that I have a decent day, then a bad day following, or if it has the possibility of being related to sex. at my dumb question...

You know, there are stranger things that are true. Maybe there is a connection. I mean, 2 is a concidence, but 3?

I just can't get past the fact that you had sex three times in the past week. You go girl!

As for your question...could be related! Why not? Maybe the oxytocin pumps up all the other hormones that make you sick.

I have NEVER been into sex in pregnancy, but it has appealed to me this time

3 times in a week is good for us anytime!

I don't really know if sex can affect it, I can tell you this, I probably haven't had sex since we concieved, and I'm still ridiculously sick, so if it makes you feel better they may not be related??? Also, it could just be the physical work that's making you feels sick, and not so much the hormones? Just ideas!

I'm so sick of feeling sick all the time. I went to my inlaws for Passover over the weekend and it was grueling. I'm not Jewish so I didn't grow up with it, but even DH gets super frustrated with the way they do things. They follow very strict rules and don't start making any preparations for dinner until full darkness at 8:30. We started the seder at 10 and didn't get to the matzoh until 10:30. By then I was so nauseated I could barely choke it down. Then dinner was served at around 11:15 and I couldn't eat a bite and just went to bed. The next day I woke up so sick since my stomach was empty, and since there were no bread products in the house, nothing appealed to me. I got DH to take me out to a diner for breakfast.

Anyway, I'm exhausted from 24 hours in no-bread-house, and today I just feel like a complete wreck. I've had DS in front of the TV all morning because I don't have the energy to play with him. And the burn on my belly hurts like crazy and is still oozing pus. And I just threw up what little I ate today (gatorade, crackers, a potato chip, and cereal.) How am I going to get through the next two months?

And I miss food, too. I love cooking and eating! Having the same 5 foods over and over is starting to get so frustrating. Gah!

sigh. thanks y'all. It's so confusing being this upset, because I had to try pretty hard to get pregnant and I am so happy about it. but it's hard to feel happy when I'm so ill all the time. and then I get upset about not being able to be happy. :

I just keep reminding myself how much I enjoyed pregnancy last time once the second trimester was in full swing. it just seems sooooo long from now.

thanks for letting me vent.

How are all the sickies doing?

I had a ROUGH weekend. Saturday night I went on a long-awaited date with DH. We went to our favorite restaurant in the area, and I couldn't help myself and ordered my favorite dish, even though it's quite rich. (Spaghetti with tomato-mascapone sauce, zucchini, and mini meatballs.) I could only eat maybe a fourth of it but it tasted so good. I had dessert too. So that night I woke up at 1AM nauseated. Ate an orange to try to calm my stomach, and promptly barfed it up into the kitchen sink. After that I threw up 5 more times. I was up all night. After the fourth time I took a unisom, but at that point my stomach was so irritated that I barfed up the medicine- and it was all liquified and bitter, it was so nasty. Stayed in all day on Sunday while DH took DS to his parents'. It was nice to get a real "sick day" where I was home alone and could watch crappy TV and sleep. But I still feel drained from the whole thing.

Can't wait for this nausea to end.

What about y'all? Still sick?
