I got a perm when I was pregnant with Steph and I think I was about 5 months along. I've heard that you're not really supposed to do this. It didn't hurt her as far as I could ever tell but I was just curious about what you all think about this. I am 11 weeks now and I've heard that you're not supposed to do it and I've also heard that you're supposed to wait till you're past the 1st trimester.

Honestly, I think you will get a different answer from everyone you ask about this. There is actually only a small amount of exposure to the chemicals in perms. I have always colored my hair during pregnancy and will continue to. I believe that the chemicals we are exposed to in every day life are no better than the chemicals used in hair treatments. The only warning I would give is that when pregnant hair reacts differently to perms. It might not take, either all over or in some spots, or might come out differently than it should (same with color.) It might not last as long. But as far as the DANGER of perms, I would say you are fine. The most common thing you will hear is "not in the first trimester" :::... I think your fine. That's my two cents!

I thought I probably would be. When I got the perm with Steph, it actually took really well but it didn't last as long as it normally does. That doesn't bother me so much cause I do it myself, so I don't feel like I'm losing out on any money. My hair is kind of long and it costs me $150.00 at the beauty shop, which is ridiculous.

I do put highlights in my hair from time to time to cover up the gray. I use the same color that my hair is but I have quite a time convincing people that my hair is red and has been all my life. I think people do this because my hair looks more brown in a picture and my sister and Steph both have dark brown hair.
