We went on vacation last week with dh's family, which we announced that I am pregnant. One of his brother's and his family couldn't make it. DH and DD are flying to see them next week to share the news. Well, my il's told dh's brother yesterday. Then, dh's sister told him today too.

WTH? This is our news to share, not them. Am I overreacting? It really makes me upset. This is our baby, not theirs. Dh isn't too happy they can't keep a secret. We have had other opportunities to tell them via IChat and we chose not to so that they could tell them in person. UGH!!!

Mindfully parenting DD 8/04 & DS 11/08, Human beings are the only mammals who do not nurse their offspring to full term.

that sucks! I'm sorry they shared your news.

Had you told them not to tell? If so that's even worse.

My sister is the worst about keeping secrets. I can never tell her anything I don't want the whole world to know. It's too bad because it means I don't share as much with her as I might like. Anyway, just wanted to commiserate.

Sheesh.

I don't think you're overreacting. The way I see it is that pregnancy is a rare, special time that only happens a few times in a person's life, if they're lucky. It should absolutely be your news to share, especially since you specifically asked!

Maybe you'll feel better if you tell them how you feel about what happened?

Oh man I've done that before. But my brother didn't tell me not to tell anyone. I just wasn't thinking. I was so surprised by his wife's pregnancy that I called and told everyone after he told me their news. I still feel bad about it years later.

I'm really sorry they took that moment away from you.

I think if you hadn't told them not to tell, it wouldn't be that unusual, but since your DH specifically told them not to tell... that's weird! And not cool.
