What do you think of Ginger Katla (for a girl)?
Ginger is a name dh and I both love. We almost named dd that, but changed our minds at the last minute. Katla is the female name of a fiesty Icelandic volcano. Dh and I backpacked there on our honeymoon and have great memories of it.
Overall, it's a special name for us, I'm not sure that the two names go together though. What do you think?

The name Ginger is very cute. Katla is nice because it has so much meaning for you. I'm not sure if the two go together though. It depends on your last name; if it has two syllables I could see it going well together.

My mom's best friend's dog's name is Ginger so she hates it.
Our last name does have two syllables. The more I say the name, the more I like it. Maybe I should start rooting for a girl!

I think Ginger is cute, but that said, I've known many orange cats named Ginger. I REALLY like Katla for a first name though, especially with its meaning!

Ginger Peach! That would be so cute except we call our dd "Peach" a lot. Not sure where that nickname came from--we started using it when she was just a month or so old and it stuck. We even have a song called "Mom's Little Peach" we sing to her.

I like it, but also have the cat connotation. Plus Ginger Spice...

Who booed Frances? I love that name.

I love that it has such wonderful, special meaning for you and your dh...you're not just using it "because it sounds nice phoenetically"...kwim? SO i say, don't let the phoenetic sound stop you...AND chances are the more you say it, the more it will "go together"...kwim?

at first i thought of two things when I heard Ginger...Gilligan's Island, and strippers. (i'm sorry...don't throw tomatos at me please!) however...i must say, it is SUPER cute as a little girl's name, or even as an elderly lady's name..."we're going over to Grammy Ginger's house today!"....it's just that inbetween age, the mid twenties to 40's i guess...dh and I always try to make sure if we give a first name that seems too cutesy for a grown women in a serious career ("hello I am Lucy/Piper/Heidi and I will be your attorney...") that we give them a very solid middle name they could use instead if they needed...Katla is absolutely beautiful, and could always be NN'ed to "Kate" or such, or used just as it is as a first if she wanted....

I think you should do it!!

I like Ginger Katia a lot. I had no negative (or cat) connotations when I first saw it.

First child born March 2011.  Constantly in awe!

How do you pronounce Katla? Is it a short or a long "a"? Either way, it is very pretty. Are you considering it for a first name at all?

It's pronounced "cot-la." I'm a little worried that as a first name people would pronounce it "cat-la" and nickname her "cat" (or "kat"). We still really like Ginger, so I think we'd go with that as a first name if it's a girl.

I like the name Ginger. I grew up with a girl named Ginger but she hated the name and she went by Ginny. So that could be another option.
