I am planning to do placenta encapsulation and I know some of you have already ordered your supplies. Where is the best/cheapest place to get them online? What exactly do I need? Is this type of thing ever sold in a health food store where I might be able to get it locally? Thanks for your help! I really want to get this crossed off my To Do list.

I haven't encapsulated my placenta yet- it's still sitting in the fridge- but all I bought is 100 empty pill capsules (only $7) which you can get from any pharmacy. I'm planning to steam the placenta, cut it into thin strips and then dehydrate it in the oven (lowest setting for I think 10 hours). After that, I'll grind it up and put it into the capsules.

That's if I can make myself do it. I'm feeling very hormonal (almost 3 days PP) and feel "guilty" cutting up my placenta. Someone please tell me it doesn't have feelings?

Your placenta wants you to eat it, andi-mama! It's saying, "Look at me in all of my hormonal, awesome goodness! Let me be your medicine!"

Do you need the device? What does it do? Can you do the encapsulating without one?

Thanks! I'm going to see if I can find this at the health food store. If not, I will order from that site.

Do you have to have a dehydrator or can you just use the oven? If so, how long in the oven at what temp?

I did mine w/ out an encapsulator and it didn't take too terribly long.
I used a dehydrator but you can do it in the oven as well. Check out thisthread and it gives you tons of ways to prepare it, oven temps, encapsulation techniques, smoothy recipes, and various other methods.

So I did mine! It was surprisingly easy. What I did:

-Steamed the placenta for 15/20 mins on each side (in a strainer over boiling water)
-Cut it into super thin strips
-Put it in the oven at the lowest temp (which was 170 on mine) for 10-12 hours, until it snapped
-Ground it up in the food processor
-Encapsulated it!

I've been taking 2 pills 3x a day and feel much less hormonally crazy than I did in the first 3 days. I am so glad I did it!

did you steam it with ginger or lemon or anything else? My friend didn't use anything, but then most, if not all, the other sites I've looked at say you should steam it with lemon/ginger. I think for the smell??

Nope, I didn't. It honestly didn't smell at all, except for when it was in the oven- and then it was a very very faint smell you could only notice when I opened the oven. Sort of like cooked ground beef.
