Hi everyone,

My 4 year old was bitten today at school by another boy. Its a pretty ugly bite. It broke the skin (through his shirt!). He is not vaccinated but now the dr and school are recommending at tetanus shot. What should I do? Of course now the dr wants to give him the combo shot Dtap but I am not ready for that. If we do vaccinate we would prefer the tetanus only. Any opinions would be great. I hate having to think about this.

well ....i don't see the need for a tetanus shot...

tetanus cannot live in an aerobic enviorment... so if there is blood present at the site of injury...blood is oxygenated.... i don't see the need for a tetanus shot.... tetanus lives in soil... and would probably have a very hard time living in a childs mouth...

i would find another doctor, and just keep a close eye on the bite...

i would be concerned about other bacterial infections...not tetanus, but i still wouldn't vaccinate for it... and if that were my doctor i would fire him and find another....

if you are in a school and you claimed a religious exemption....and they talk you into this shot... there is a good chance your exemption will not hold up after that....

kids have been biting each other since the begining of time.... now that pharma has a shot to sell biting has become a deadly act... it's kindof sad.

they know you don't vaccinate and will do whatever it takes to corner you...this is why doctors fire patients from thier practice..... the school is probably not comfortable with your non vaccinating status. it is obvious the doctors sees this as an opportunity to 'get you on board' and 'up to date' .... it's not about the bite, it's about getting you to comply.....

i don't see what Dtap is going to do for a bite from another child...except weaken the immune system (having antibodies to a disease does not make a healthy child) and neurologically damage a child....because many if not most of these vaccines contain aluminum... aluminum is a neuro-toxin

that is just my opinion

He doesn't need a tetanus shot, they are just trying to get a shot into the kid while they can. Don't fall for it, IMO.

Thanks. Yes my concern is for other bacteria, like Hepatitis or something. I spoke with the boys mom and he is healthy. But what`if it was a child with hepatitis or something. Maybe we should consider THAT vaccine!

I think you should do some more research and solidify your position on this issue. For me at least, part of the decision to not vaccinate is my confidence that my children's bodies could better handle actually contracting the disease than being injected with toxins. If you are going to run around being terrified of every disease you will drive yourself crazy. So I recommend doing more research about the diseases and about the vaccines and going from there.

If they were honestly concerned they would be offering the TIG and not Tetanus to one not previously vaxed .

I wouldn't worry about tetnus. I hear your concerns about Hepatitis B, which can be spread thorugh bites, but this child would have to be infected with HBV. Chances are pretty slim that he is, but I suppose its possible. Im not sure vaccinating against HBV AFTER exposure would do any good anyway???
If considering this vax do so carefully as it is a highly reactive vaccine and I have read A TON of refernces to all kinds of side effects and problems resulting from this vaccine. Id be more afraid of a reaction from the vax than the slim chance of getting HBV from a bite from a 4 year old that probably was vaxed himself as a newborn.

If the people let government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny." Thomas Jefferson.
