For those of you that are non-vax, do you feel like you have to have a natural remedy arsenal at home in preparation should your child contract a vaccine preventable disease?

Yes...I do have stuff at home and. We work with several natural health practitioners who are a wealth of information.

Also have this book:

If the people let government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny." Thomas Jefferson.

Looks like a wonderful book. I'm not currently working with a naturopath, but am thinking about switching doctors so that I won't fear the wrath should my child come down with a vaccine preventable disease on top of dealing with the illness itself.

I started learning about other means of supporting us through illnesses because of the vaccination issue, but they've seen us through a lot of illnesses, none of them vaccinateable so far. At first I felt more responsibility to build my toolbox because of the vaccine issue, now I just feel like it's a prudent move regardless of how one stands on the topic.

Yes. I am learning as much as possible about the diseases dd is not vaccinated against, and the alternative/traditional/herbal remedies. I think that by choosing not to vax, I am responsible for knowing what to do in the event that we get sick, whether it's me with the flu, or dd with chicken pox.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Anyone else have book recommendations or suggestions about where to research this topic and general things to boost your immunity?

We don't have an arsenal of remedies on hand. And I don't have anything that is just for VPDs. I've done my research and know how to deal with illnesses in general, and if dd catches something in particular that needs more attention than I know of from that, I will look up the particular ailment that she has and deal with it then.

Sure, Aviva Jill Romm's book, "Naturally Healthy Babies and Kids" does a good job explaining immunity and health and provides a wide variety of recipes for natural remedies, as well as going through all the common childhood illnesses, their symptoms, and accompanying home remedies to treat a child who has one, as well as when to seek further medical attention. I have found this book more than helpful. Her immune boosting soup recipe is very tasty!

Thank you for the posts. As a newly-confirmed non-vaxxing mom, I'm also looking to increase my knowledge on how to protect my child without vaccinations. These responses are very helpful.

I am also a firm believer that if your child is truly healthy to begin with, his/her immune system can do its job and fight off anything that tries to assault it. True overall wellness comes first and foremost from the foods we put in our bodies. I know many on this forum are already very familiar with these websites, but www.westonaprice.org and www.mercola.com are both a wealth of information on how to give yourself and your family overall wellness through natural, traditional nutrition.

Married since August of '05 to my wonderful husband, David. Mother to Ellaina (3/9/07) and waiting for Abigail to arrive June of 2010.

I agree. Nutrition is the best defense against disease because it builds a strong, healthy immune system that functions the way nature intended it to function. Excellent web sites too, I love them.
