I don't know how factual it is about the numbers, but my blood boiled when I read their scare tactics (not sure why I was even surprised, but their little blurb about "vaccines are safe!  It's been proven they don't cause autism!" just churns my stomach; as if autism is the ONLY safety factor for vaccines).

I said last year that when pertussis was the VPD du jour, and the year prior was H1N1, that this year's would be measles or mumps.

That bit about world travelers being the carriers seems off too. I though you had to be vaxed to travel like that?

Actually there are only a few vaccines that are recommended to travel and only to certain countries, for things like hep A and yellow fever.  You don't have to be vaccinated to travel most places.  There was a small outbreak, less then 200 cases I think, of measles here in Western Canada after the Vancouver Olympics.  It is believed to have been started by a traveler. I don't believe there were any deaths.

90% were imported from foreign countries.  mmmm. Why is it that doctors can use xenophobia and not be called politically incorrect?  And which foreign countries:  countries that do not push vaccines or countries with lower infant mortality rates?  I know that the measles "epidemic" in San Diego was started by a family returning from vacation in that third world country, Switzerland.

However VAERS reported 698 of adverse event cases in the same period against the MMR vaccine.  Keep in mind that only 1-10% of all reactions are ever reported to VAERS;  a possibility of 69,800 adverse reactions from the MMR alone!

Dr. Mendelsohn has a chapter in his book, How To Raise A Healthy Child....,  regarding how to recognize and treat a so-called vaccine preventable disease if your child happens to fall ill.  You probably do not want to wait for the doctor to recognize, diagnose and treat it.

Furthermore, when my youngest son and my niece had measles 20 years ago, the young interns in the office did not recognize it as measles; I paid for this visit, and I was educating the young doctors there!  So I am wondering if now, 20 years later, doctors even know how to diagnose it.  The same goes for all so-called vaccine preventable diseases.  Doctors often misdiagnose pertussis in adults as chronic bronchitis without ordering a lab test.  Meanwhile, it is too late for antibiotics to be effective against the disease and the disease has been spread to all the susceptibles.

If this is preventative medicine, will take my chances with disease.

Ditto!
We are blessed beyond measure, to be attending a church of about 100 or so, where well over half are not vaccinated! Most of the littelones had the measles last year, but I am pretty sure they were not even taken in, cause they all know how to care for it.

I saw the same article on the Yahoo page and started freaking out.  When I looked up the data on the weekly CDC MMWR site, though, they only list 83 cases total for 2011.  The odd thing is that the specific data chart--number of cases per state--is missing.  The measles info is always on this monthly report, so why is it missing now? Something is certainly amiss; I'm thinking it's the latest scare tactic as mentioned earlier.  I'm sure my father will bring it up to me and tell me that I need to shoot up my boys!
