On facebook....I shared an article and responded that the person who wrote the article was playing off people's emotions (her 27day old baby died of pertussis) to get other people to vaccinate against pertussis because it could have saved her baby's life and she's trying to save other babies.  I looked up pertussis briefly because I was pretty sure that the vaccine only prevented the symptoms, but not the disease itself.  I stated that, and some new info... an article said that they're finding a higher incidence in contracting the disease in those who are vaccinated vs. those who are not vaccinated.  I also said that if my baby happened to be around someone who had contracted the disease, I would like to know if they are coughing, not having the symptoms masked because they were vaccinated!

Now I cant find the article, and I have to cite my sources.  So, anyone have some scientific links (peer reviewed journal articles, *.org sites, etc? I can cite?  When I made my decision to not vaccinate, I still had access to Jstor from college.  The person I have to cite my sources for is in nursing school, so she does, I'm sure....

Thanks!

Kristin

The first one may be what you are looking for? There have been a lot of pertussis threads recently, not sure if all of these are exactly what you are looking for, but are interesting links I've been collecting from other posters smile.gif

Good luck with facebook though... I don't get into this type of thing there, seems like most people say it doesn't end well.

slmommy, that first link is to a study published in 2000--back when they used the whole-cell pertussis vaccine that was supposed to be much MORE effective than the acellular version used today.

That's my thread and I agree, the links aren't scientific enough either. Btw I found that any discussion that even mentions the word VACCINE on FB hasn't ended well for me either smile.gif

I never talk about vaccine stuff on my facebook wall.  There are some nice groups on there to discuss it and learn things, I keep it off my wall and I keep from commenting on others  Although, a friends daughter was in the hospital for whooping cough age 7 and I told her about vitamin C, but I let it go after that.

I don't know if this is any good. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22094341
