“We want people to understand just because you're vaccinated doesn't mean with pertussis that you're fully protected,” explained Rombalski.

Quite surprising to read this in a newspaper article. Brave statement!

This one is all pro-vaccine even though it apparently failed badly and I don't really believe the statement that if vaccinated it causes a milder case of pertussis. At least it did not with that poor 14y/o in my opinion.

This one is from beginning of June in Mass.

Nobody seems to get their figures right. Here the statement is that the efficacy rate is 80-85% in the article above from Wis. it is only 60-70%. So who is right now? Or are they just making up some numbers?

According to what I just read on the cdc website, they believe it is about 90% at time of 5th injection and wanes down to 70% over the following 5 years.

This source also reiterates the facts that non-vaxxers are not to blame for outbreaks and that the disease cycles and changes and that the vax is not as effective as the older one. But one thing I see is that rates started rising in the early 80s and we didn't switch vaxxes until the 90s. I wonder what the vax rate was at that time.

Threadjacking... anyone know if there are outbreaks in Colorado/Wyoming right now? The 4yo has been having cold symptoms for about 3 days and just spent the last hour coughing.
