Today my 7 yr old son was on his friends bike, i guess the handlebar was rusty. He got a cut from the rusty part. looks like the size of maybe a papercut or a smidge bigger. pretty tiny. i washed it right away. he was vaxed as a baby and got either two or three doses of dtap, so that was around 6 yrs ago. Should i be concerned about tetanus? honestly in the last year ive been looking into getting him vaxed for tetanus. with the Td shot, as he had bad reactions to the pertussis component. But, im scared now. should i take him in and ask about the tetanus immune globin?! thanks so much for any feedback.

Seriously, i wouldn't worry about it...keep it clean, covered with a  band aid and put some neosporin or other ointment on it..let it air at night...did it bleed at all?  how deep did it go?  a surface scratch is very minor and nothing to get alarmed about..since your child already had some dtap, chances are good he's got some immunities.

No don't worry

And there is no MD in his right mind that would give you the immunglobulin for a wound like you are describing. What they would do however is probably use the opportunity to get your son "up to date"
