Another good article from the Living Whole blog... remember when doctors/science recommended ddt and cigarettes?

That was a fun read.  The pictures were a hoot.  I liked this one the best:

 Laboratory tests, eh?  :lol

That particular ad seems to be a hoax--but it's not too far off from the truth!

Alas, that one is fake. It was done as joke here http://jdryznar.livejournal.com/64477.html?00cf6878 still pretty funny though.

Pretty sure most or all the are real. The was also teething drops and a soothing syrup for children's coughs that were actually both morphine.

Ah, I've had this argument with many people.  When I question modern medicine, (an am subsequently insulted) this is usually my go-to defense.  What an arrogant attitude, to think that despite all of the archaic treatments and medicines people were subjected to in the past, that RIGHT THIS SECOND we have surpassed our technological adolescence!  In the here and now, medicine has been perfected and there's no way we will discover any of these practices to be barbaric so how dare we question it.

And I have, most unfortunately, had this argument with otherwise very intelligent people.  It's like the herd mentality takes over.  Sad, really.

Songy and kathymuggle like this.
