Toddler may have gotten whooping cough from vaccinated hospital employee

At Kaiser Permanente in South Sacramento between April 22 and May 6.

Mom: Toddler contracted whooping cough at hospital

The vaccinated employee tested positive for pertussis. Although the article doesn't say, I wouldn't be surprised if the toddler was fully vaccinated as well.

According to the CDC website, "Children should get 5 doses of DTaP, one dose at each of the following ages: 2, 4, 6, and 15 through 18 months and 4 through 6 years."

What's next, recommending kids get poked at 8, 10, and 12 months?

I thought even vets are starting to be critical of vaccinating dogs every year? But it may be that only vets who don't rely on vaccines as part of their bread and butter question the schedule. My vet, like my doctor, doesn't peddle shots.

Sacramento? The same community that chased down this couple and took their child when they decided to go for a very second opinion from another hospital in town? http://naturalsociety.com/cps-takes-...econd-opinion/

The very one. Lesson? Try to never go to a hospital unless your arms or legs are broken. Instead develop a mutually respectful relationship with a doctor who has the smarts to open his/her own private practice.

Lesson: Never go to a hospital unless you are carried into one.

I like your statement about a smart doctor opening his own practice. I fear with the current system, there are fewer and fewer of those. Hopefully more young people will train to be alternative practitioners of health care.
