My inlaws got the shingles vax today. I read a while ago about how children who are not vaxed for chicken pox can catch it from a person recently vaxed for shingles. No, I can't find the info ofcourse. The pediatrician's office said they( in laws) are contagious for 3-4 weeks. My mother in law said her Dr. told her otherwise. I just left her a message with the kid's Dr's phone # and extension of the nurse who answers questions. I would not mind them catching chicken pox but I don't trust the strain carried in the shingles vaccine. Do you all know any info ?

The strain doesn't matter. When your child comes in contact with the virus they build their own from that. It's not like you chatch many one type of viruses and that's what you deal with. You get a few and make your own.

Whether or not the child is vaxed for chicken pox doesn't matter. The chicken pox vax, and presumably the shingles vax, are live - they carry live viruses. Theoretically, anyone can get the chicken pox from a recently vaxed person.
