...But my 5 year old has been vaxed up until his 2 year old shots. He's entering public K next week I live in AZ. Last week the school nurse called to inform me of the shots he would need to enter K (she left a message)...Anyway, obviously I don't want to give him (or any of my children) any more shots, but since he's been vaxed until this point, can they insist I vax him? What should I say to them? TIA!

Misti, mom to DS (12), DS (9), DD (3), and Mr. Man (October '10)!

Look up your state laws. Find out what exemptions your state allows. Inform the school you'll be filing an exemption. I'm glad to not have to deal with this as we homeschool.

The fact that you vaccinated before has no bearing on whether or not you can claim an exemption. If your state has the option of the philisophical exemption, there should be no problem. If not, you may need to find out if you could claim a religious or medical exemption.

ok good!! That makes me feel better. I called the nurse today, and she said to come in and fill out an exemption form.

Thank you all so much!

Remember, the nurse has NO power over your exemption. You do not owe her an explanation, and it is better to answer none.

"It should be a rule in all prophylactic work that no harm should ever be unnecessarily inflicted on a healthy person (Sir Graham Wilson, The Hazards of Immunization, 1967)."

My 6 yo entered kindy last year. He was vaxed up to age 2 as well. I just filled out the exemption (we are in tx) as if he was unvaxed. We had no trouble whatsoever.

I did give his vax record to them. I kind of wish I hadn't...I suspect it would be easier if I hadn't.

I'm so glad you asked this!! I have the same exact question. And I'm in the same boat I think they have this vax schedule up to this point. Also, his older brother has all of his vaxes. Do you think it matters? If they bring it up should I just give them the exempt form? We are a religious excemption state so it just seems weird that they have the the schedule of vaxes done until age 2 and now I'm claiming religious and not his brother.
