When I took Shelby in for her 2 month WCC, I was so incredibly nervous. I don't do confrontation very well, and I was terrified of one with my doctor, who I've been taking the kids to for 6 years now. Anyway, the nurse asked me if I was going to be getting all of Shelby's shots right away, I mean, right when she recorded her weight. I was surprised because nobody has ever asked me before. I fully vaxed both my older boys, and it was all so standard "these are the shots he'll be receiving today"...when I told her I wanted to hold off and not get the shots, she simply smiled and said, okay, I'll just take these information forms and get a waiver ready for you.

When the doctor came in, we talked about Shelby's development, and eventually came round to the vaxes. She actually said, I wish more parents would research these shots, honestly. I was surprised!! She gave me a list of books to read, hugged me, and sent me on my merry way.

All in all, totally not what I was expecting. I knew I liked my doctor before, but now I know I love her.

Misti, mom to DS (12), DS (9), DD (3), and Mr. Man (October '10)!

Be sure to post in your local tribe and let others in your geographical area know about this no-vax-friendly ped!

It is the pediatricians who do see or hear of the reactions.

WOW!!

I want to hug your pediatrician!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have started crying!!!!

I found a doctor(MD) but they are a family practice with all kinds of other alternative doctors in it, no pediatricians.

VERY HAPPY FOR YOU!!!

Your doctor needs to be handed an award for human compassion and high honors for respecting your right to be involved in your medical choices!!!:

i'm curious, too. even if they are pro-vax books, i'm glad that the ped apparently trusts parents to research issues and make decisions.

My doctor had a similar reaction. He just said "Ok, well let me know if you have questions". So glad you had a good experience!

You know, it was the books that everybody here told me to read, like the Vaccine Book, How to Raise a Healthy Child in Spite of Your Doctor, and a couple of others. I'm out of town right now (house hunting in Minnesota!! YAY!) so I don't have the list with me, but I do remember she told me to read the CDC's report on disease cases.

No, I'm in Northern AZ, Prescott to be exact. It's kind of a funny mix of cowboy and crunchy here. Her name is Dr. Brenda Sipes, and she's a fellow of the AAP!

Prescott is so nice!! I'd like to try and convince DH to move up there some day.

Thanks for the info...I'm going to try and see if I can find more info about this organization. Do you know what it stands for? This was the closest I found -
