Are people getting the flu shot likely to spread it? What I mean is should we avoid anyone that we know getting the vax? If so, for how long?
I am not sure if I should avoid family members that are getting the vax, so if they came down w/ it I won't have to worry about my LO getting it,KWIM?

The flu *shot* is killed and won't spread.

The flu MIST however, is live, and can spread like crazy.

The nasal flu vaccine is live, however it's attenuated. According to the CDC website it is unlikely to spread.

Quote:
In clinical studies, transmission of vaccine viruses to close contacts has occurred only rarely. The current estimated risk of getting infected with vaccine virus after close contact with a person vaccinated with the nasal-spray flu vaccine is low (0.6%-2.4%). Because the viruses are weakened, infection is unlikely to result in influenza illness symptoms since the vaccine viruses have not been shown to mutate into typical or naturally occurring influenza viruses.
However, our playgroup, which meets weekly, has decided to make a policy regarding children who have received this vaccine. They are to stay away from playgroup for one week. This is mostly because toddlers/young kids aren't really good about infection control and we have many newborns and pregnant moms in the group. There are a couple of us who don't vaccinate as well.
