I just started recycling this weekend : I set up all my bins on my back porch and started sorting. I have a few questions though. For things like 2 liter bottles, or tin cans do I need to take off the label? Can I recycle the plastic wrappings that come off of various foods? Is there some website that can give me those kinds of rules? Thanks everyone

do you have curbside recycling? If it's a company coming to pick it up for you, they should have a website or flyer that specifies. If you take it somewhere, they probably have a list that tells you the what and hows.

We have Waste Management for both trash and recycling and they accept plastics #1-7 along with cardboard, cans, junk mail, phonebooks, etc. pretty much anything that is not really trash, besides grocery bags.

I rinse everything out but do not remove labels. I also flatten cardboard, food boxes, etc because that is what they ask.

Ours is stream-lined recycling where everything goes into one green bin and then to the curb. I love that we don't have to separate.

good luck figuring it out!

Is there a local number to call or a website you can get info from? It's different in each area. for me it used to be that we had to sort things into boxes and then into clear bags and it's just changed again. We can now just clean and toss things into a clear bag, just one bag for everything.

Good for you to be recycling!!!

We don't have to take the paper off, but I do. My feelings are just because you don't have to doesn't mean you shouldn't. Especially when it only take a few extra seconds. I guess I question what happens to the paper? Does it get soaked off and thrown away? Then in that case I feel like I have removed it and put it in the paper recycle to save that. We do have to seperate everything because we take ours to the dump/recycling center ourselves since there is no trash pick up out here in the sticks.
