things come in boxes. Boxes are made of cardboard. Is there another way to use them other than recycling them or throwing them away?

Before we recycle them, we let the kids play with them and make things out of the boxes.

Shoe boxes can also make very good storage for Playmobil people and horses.

Had a space shuttle drawn on the inside so my children cut it out and are still having a blast with it! What a clever idea!

You can use them:
-as paint pallets
-as a cutting surface
-to store muddy boots on
-to cushion knees when you have to kneel (like gardening)
-as a layer in a lasagna garden
-as storage containers
-as dividers in dresser drawers
-as furniture (no, really, google it)

Tons of things with cardbard!
Check out www.craftser.org for tons of ideas, too

You can also use them as mulch/weed blocker.

I offer mine up on freecycle for others. Usually someone needs them for moving and it saves them money too.

Thanks for all the crafty ideas!! We have a new apartment and we needed to buy all new furniture and I had so many ikea boxes! LOL

I used some as drawer seperaters and recycled some and saved some too. I love the idea of pain pallet for the kids and myself!

Yep - this is what I was going to say. Also good for laying down on the grass and letting them sit (I use cinder blocks to keep them from blowing away) to kill the grass for a new flower/vegetable garden.

For lasagna gardening, if you hose them down really good it's just as useful as newspaper. And good idea for a kneeling pad...I'll have to remember that in the spring! Thanks!

Oh crap - well, if you are in an apartment, you may not have a garden. Oops.

I read this idea somewhere, it is not my own:

Use flat pieces of cardboard to line the tops of upper kitchen cabinets (the part just under the ceiling), so that you don't have to clean that greasy, dusty film off of particle board. Instead, you just replace the cardboard periodically.

Generally I just reuse what I can, and recycle the rest.

I use thin cardboard, like cereal boxes, whenever we need to make name tags for Girl Scouts or some kind of event. Cut cardboard into rectangles, punch holes in 2 top corners with a hole-punch, tie string in the holes, and hang around your neck. Or punch 1 hole in the top center and attach with a safety pin.
