I'm trying to figure out what to do with an out of date, hardcover book. It is a reference book, so it really isn't a good resource for anyone anymore. Ideas?

Are you wanting to get rid of it or find some ultra creative reuse project? I've seen DIY projects using books for everything from shelves to tables to hollowing them out to make a hidden box. If you want to get rid of the book, you should be able to recycle it. I work at a library and we recycle everything from scratched DVDs to hardcover books that are too damaged or outdated to resell. Since you are near a large city, I'm sure there is a book recycler somewhere in your area. Try calling your nearest recycling center, used bookstores to inquire how they dispose of un-sellables, and local libraries.

Thank you! I was thinking of recycling it and appreciate the idea for how to find out how to do so, but you also gave in an idea with the project thought.

I want to get some old books like that and make DVD holders out of them. I figure they would look so much nicer than the DVD cases you get at the store.

I have seen (online) people turn books into a little shelf.  I think it's a neat idea.

I love the shelves. This is a very thick book, but I think I'll remember that for others.

How does the DVD case work? My googling came up empy.

1) Double-check amazon & alibris and make sure it is pretty much worthless

2) Take off the hard cover binding and put it into the paper recycling bin. If you feel like you want to get rid of some angry energy about something else, you can tear it apart further w/ your hands before binning it.
