What are some (natural) ways to get things going, labor-wise? I know a few, but I'd be real interested to hear if any of you ladies have some additional ideas. Especially if you've used them yourself, what was the outcome?

Here are the things I know of that are supposed to help bring on labor:
  • Walking
  • Sex
  • Evening Primrose Oil (either taken orally or applied directly to cervix)
  • Raspberry leaf tea
  • Pressure points in the feet (I'm a little unclear about where exactly)
  • Castor Oil (as a last resort, cuz it sounds horrible)

What else? I'm sure there must be some more herbs or other natural things out there that stimulate the uterus or help open the cervix. I figure it can't hurt to try, right?

Nipple stimulation, and I believe the accupressure points are slightly above your ankles.

In addition to those mentioned, fresh Pineapple and tea from cinnamon sticks.

Last time I went into labor after my Mom gave me a thorough foot massage and had some cinnamon tea (I was 3 days after my EDD).
Could definitely have been coincidence, but if it helped then my body was ready apparently

a wonderful herbalist susun weed had a few concoctions that have helped me in the past. www.susunweed.com they consist of blue cohosh, which is hard to find because it works, and black cohosh which is pretty easy to find. It tasts terrible but works. epo in pill form and internally does help also. castor oil is gross and doesnt do much except have you running to the bathroom. nipple stim is great as is sex (if you can find a position that actually works!)

actual "weed" is also supposed to be helpful but then you run the risk of being reported for having it in your system if you go to the hospital so imo, it isn't worth it.

Good luck, I'll be starting the above cohosh soon.........

I was told today to try papaya. I've also heard a spicy curry, but no way I'm risking the heartburn!

Sex makes biological sense because of the prostaglandins in semen (think prostate - prostaglandins... same as the gel they give you to induce!). They ripen the cervix. (Don't know how ingested would work; that doesn't make biological sense, unless I'm missing something.)

In the end though, it's your baby that puts out the signal that he/she is ready to come out. He/She releases a hormone (anyone know what that hormone is called?) which signals to the brain that it's time to start releasing that oxytocin and what not, so really, all we can hope to do is maybe trigger an already ready baby to get moving.

Yeah, I've only had the nerve to use acupressure for this very reason. Plus I've found that I can stimulate contractions (with acupressure and RRL) but I don't think I could actually start real labor. But, whew, if I'm still pregnant at 42 weeks I'm sure I'll be singing a different tune!

Oral Application of Semen
About fellatio: Actually, it would probably be beneficial, if the idea is to get the labour started. A great OB in Hamilton (John Lamont, I believe) spoke to our class about sexuality and pregnancy. He mentioned the concept that prostaglandins are absorbed 10X more efficiently through the gut than through the vaginal mucosa, with respect to semen and labour onset.

I came across that while looking for more ways to induce.

I've tried it all and it just doesn't work!

sex + LOT of orgasms since 37 weeks
nipple stimulation
bumpy car rides
walking
spicy food (thai food with basil in it too)
acupressure by a cranoscral massage therapist
glass of beer + pizza at my midwifes urging
EPO
raspberry leaf tea
(not that the lst two are suppose to induce, but they are supposed to help progression)

I think babies just come with they want unfortunately!

You could try one of these:

I am issuing 30 day notice for EVICTION. Tenant will have 30 days in which he can either gather his belongings and promptly vacate the premises, or wait until the final day. After which, he will be physically removed from the property.

He's being evicted due to breech of contract and destruction of property. Expansions only to the FRONT of the house, within reasonable limits, were discussed. Not only have these limits been exceeded, but additions to the back of the house were also made!

Remodeling and gutting of the home was never approved, nor was changing the initial layout and base structure. And due to property damage, there are now leaks in both the upper AND lower levels of the home. On top of which, the landlord has received numerous complaints about nightly disturbances.

After 30 days from this day that he doesn’t comply with the notice will result in immediate and forceful removal at my discretion.

ONLY I think I'm going to change the 30 days to 24 hours for my babe.

LOL, that sure made me laugh. I just need to add something about gas leaks, and it's perfect!

Lots of good info here, thanks folks! I know I probably should just be patient but I need something to DO while I'm being patient, kwim?
