We are nearly TV-free for our DD -- most months she watches none, but there's the occasional football game at the grandparents or a movie on an airplane flight.

Since I've been pregnant, I've turned to TV twice -- first trimester, when I was very sick, she watched 2 Pooh movies.

Now I'm 38 weeks pregnant, baby just dropped in the last few days, tired. DH works night shift on the weekends, so he's sleeping today. It means we can stick around the house, but we have to be pretty quiet. DD doesn't play alone well these days, just a phase.

So far we've read books for over an hour, baked cheddar cheese crackers, and made/are eating lunch.

I'm sorely tempted to put in a movie so that I can lay down. But since we've been so strict on the no-TV front, every time I contemplate it, I feel like a total failure as a mom. I've totally blown this out of proportion in my head. Stupid hormones. But I WOULD like to avoid the TV if possible.

Anyway. I'm just looking for some support for getting through today (and probably tomorrow, and maybe next weekend) without the screen.

Jen, homeschooling geek of DD 9 and DS 6.

I have a 3 year old too and what works in our house is art supplies and audio books. Can you set her up with glitter glue, water colors or crayons near you so you can rest and she's being supervised? If you don't have any audio books at home, here's a link to vintage kids records (some are not PC) that have been digitized: http://www.kiddierecords.com/.

HTH, but do what you have to do to be well. Good luck!

Producing great kids since 2006!

No advice, just hugs! I'm due this week and have zero energy for my busy three-year-old. Luckily he's been waking super early in the AM and DH has been taking him for a bit while he gets ready for work, so DS and I have been napping a bit in the afternoon. That and lots of time outside which seems to tire and mellow him out a bit. I second the art-time idea - DS can do that for a long time. How about a long bath? DS also plays in the tub forever and loves mid-day baths.

SAHM to two amazing boys
