DH and I are really at odds over exposing our 10 month old to TV. DH watches 4-5 hours of TV a day (more on weekends and during football season) so it's hard to avoid. One of the things that worries me is that he has a HUGE television and there's no way not to see it when it's on. We had a disagreement this morning when I went and stood in between DD and the TV and started showing her a book to distract her. He thinks I'm overreacting. Maybe I am, but I hate, hate, hate it when I see DD staring slack jawed at a commercial.

Does anybody know if the size of the screen makes any difference on the impact that TV images have on babies?

This is an interesting question, but I can't recall anything that I have see about the size of screen making a difference.  I will be interested to see if anyone else has some input.

I've never seen a study about it... But instinct tells me that it's probably harder to ignore the screen the bigger it gets, or the louder the volume, or the more people in the house staring on it. Think of the difference between a giant billboard and a small sign, or a small hand-held TV vs. a movie screen...

One idea for you might be to move the TV out of her playspace, or move her main playspace to another room, if either is a possibility... But if your DH has different views on TV, it might be a hard sell.

Co-sleeping is really wonderful when your child actually SLEEPS!! familybed1.gif
