... to my mom that we don't have a TV to watch the fireworks on that she wants to pay for our cable. Never mind that we can see real fireworks down the block. And that we're happily TV free. But apparently we're deprived.

She was telling me how she and the cat were enjoying watching the show. She asked which channel we were watching it on. I guess TV is such a non-issue for us that I never mentioned to her that we're TV-free before. There was an awkward silence, and then she offered to pay for it! I told her thanks but no thanks, and she said this was no time to be proud, ishould just call the cable company on Monday!

It's kinda sweet of her, though... in a way...

Sweet, yes. Just keeping smiling and saying "no thank you."

(Fireworks on TV? What's the point? )

I always thought it was odd to watch fireworks on TV when you could see them in person. You could probably get a DVD of fireworks.

My parents offered to pay for us to have TV once. I turned them down. We truly couldn't afford it ourselves but I still felt like if we couldn't afford cable or satellite on our own then it wasn't necessary to have at all.
I've had to accept help in the past for very real needs. I know what to drop my pride for and it isn't TV.
