ok- going outside the box here... I tell my 3 yr old (now 4) "Go play with your toys! ".

Instead of a "group" veg activity, we all kind of do seperate things and hang out together. We have in the livingroom a little table and chairs for DS. It has paper, crayons, scissors, puzzles, etc. on there. Our piano bench is one of those that looks like a leather ottoman but opens up to have all his toys there. We have a little book shelf with his books there. We have a big basket of colored wood blocks by the couch and some other toys like games stacked near his table. We have a fenced in yard that is very kid friendly with a big picture window where we can see the whole thing from the livingroom.

So, very rarely do we "plan" an evening activity. One of us might read while the other plays blocks with ds. Or we may all 3 be doing something different and just talking.

Given some time, kids will come up with their own games. At 3 yrs old, maybe not for hours, but for a while... It is good to have some ideas, but don't feel "responsible" for kiddos play .
