I'm sorry if this is a bit of a dumb question, but I really am curious. What are the potential risks of having an untreated cavity in a child?

nak

in short, a cavity is a "house for germs" (lol can you tell i've talked it over with my toddler), which keeps growing if left untreated. eventually, the bacteria move into the central part of the tooth (pulp), where the nerve houses. from there, it's a highway to the rest of the body. this means that an untreated cavity can result in major infections, first within the gums and jaw area where it can affect the permanent teeth in waiting, and then other areas of the head potentially including the brain. hth
