My mom went through very early menopause, before she was 40 I think. Is this usually hereditary? Should I expect to go through early menopause, and therefore have more babies, which I definitely want, earlier rather than later? Does anyone now anything about this?

I'm going to ask my Dr. about this at our next appt., but I'm curious to know if anyone here has any experience/knowledge about this subject.

Yes, menopause is hereditary. I am 39 and showing signs already. The first question my OB/GYN asked was my mother's age at menopause. I didn't know since she had a hysterectomy at age 42.

But if your mother was young, you stand a good chance of being young at menopause, as well. So, if I were you, I would finish my family as soon as possible.
