I have celiac disease that was untreated for 20 years. For the past year and a half I have been having 'flare ups' every few months that include general inflammation of my entire GI tract with extreme pain in the middle of my descending colon. Haven't had trouble in a little while, but am having the descending colon pain right now. The only thing I can think of is the ice cream I ate this afternoon---from which I usually abstain. Dairy and sugar are not great for me. I have to admit that I overeat often when I am bored and upset, but do not get constipated. However, that would put a lot of 'matter' moving through my colon. I am going to try to fast starting Monday for as long as I can--hopefully 5-10 days.

Can this be a trigger or aggravate some sort of lesion in my colon? Might I have diverticula or something?
Anyone else have similar pain?
How do I tell if I'm having refractory Celiac bouts?
