My DD has gotten a "cold" that has moved into her chest. What are some alternatives to antibiotics? I don't want her to be sick; however, I don't feel very comfortable giving my 2 month old meds.

Is it for pneumonia? If she's 2 months old, I'd be worried about not giving abx if a doctor thinks it's necessary. For an ear infection, you would probably be fine treating it on your own, but if it's pneumonia or RSV or something? I wouldn't chance it.

Why are you against antibiotics if it can prevent serious complications?

it is normal for a cold to move to the lungs. You want it to be loose and expectorated though. I swear by a sauteed organic yellow onion with a few cloves of garlic then cooled to warm. Apply to the chest over a piece of gauze and cover. I cover with a heating pad and try to do it when child is sleeping for 20 min. Sounds strange but I have used this several times to clear congestion in babies- children.

Well, if it is indeed a cold, then it is caused by a virus. Antibiotics should NOT be used for viruses. They are completely ineffective. Yet some doctors continue to prescribe them for cold, flu, etc

Before antibiotics are even considered, a proper diagnosis must be in place. If this is truly a cold, antibiotocs should NOT be given.
