I recently added a bit of zinc to my older dd's supplements (She's 13).
That day she had a tummy ache and I wondered if there could be a correlation b/c that was the only new thing that I know of that she ingested that day. I'm hesitant to give it to her again until I rule it out. The only other supplement that's ever given her tummy trouble is spirulina which she can't tolerate AT ALL.
TIA!

Yes it can. I supp my kids with zinc and it has to be after a meal, not just a few bites of something. I think I've read that citrate or picolinate (vs oxide) are better tolerated, but still, after food!

I agree- I have to take it with a meal. I always give it to the kids with food, too.

Wow, okay. That's good to know. Thanks so much. I think that may have been it b/c on the day I gave it to her she'd only had a little bit of yogurt - she's not a big breakfast eater. I looked and it is oxide - I'll switch over to citrate.
Thank you!

Does it give you a tummy ache too, or upset stomach?

I get a tummy ache/pain - not nausea at all.

I had to run away in the middle of my post... my husband got a horrible stomach ache once, almost threw up, because he a) took too much zinc, and b) it was on an empty stomach. I don't remember how much it was though.
