This is why some other moms and I banded together to plant our own garden. This and GMO contamination. We bought monsanto-free seeds, so hopefully they are healthy and the way food was meant to be. We also have husbands who hunt so we get healthy meat on the table too. If i was allowed to have chickens in my back yard I totally would.

You can encourage your representatives to oppose legislation like this (and there are other, similar bills in the works as well) by email or phone. There are quite a few sites that make it easy to fire off emails to your reps - try www.downsizedc.org.

We have to at least make our voices heard, they'll get away with it if we let them.

We are gardening and buying local here as much as we can. I'm not happy that the govt has to try to mess with my access to my family's food supply! They'd have it set up so that all we have access to is processed, packaged, additive-stuffed grocery store pseudo-foods.

Food and Water Watch put out this fact sheet awhile ago

It was food for thought.

That is a good link, I totally agree with this -

Per the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA)

:
“For now, what you can do is call your Congress member and Senators and tell them that any produce safety bill MUST BE:

*scale appropriate
*risk based
*science based
*provide tiered compliance alternatives
*focus on education, not regulation with punitive measures for non-compliance

I don't believe either of the bills currently under consideration do a good job of addressing any of these points and this list would be a good one to include in your emails or phone conversations with your representatives.
