I am thinking about the degenerative symptoms attached and can't help but wonder if it's connected to autoimmune disorders. Has anyone else considered this? (I'm trying to figure out the cause other than the answere: "it's inherited".) I'm checking into this for a family member.

It looks like there is a strong connection.

Unless it's congenital (birth defect) the most common cause appear to be RA or similar type conditions.

Looks like acquired SS is strongly related to AI:

Acquired spinal stenosis develops after birth. It is usually a consequence of tissue destruction (degeneration) caused by an infectious disease or a disease in which the immune system attacks the body's own cells (autoimmune disease).
