DD has her first cold and I had been doing nothing beyond some extra handwashing and dosing myself liberally with vit c and encouraging more nursing. But, it's getting worse. We have elderberry syrup (the Sambu stuff, just plain elderberry, not the "SambuGuard"), but it says right on the bottle not to use if pregnant or breastfeeding, and even the kids stuff only has dosages starting at 2yrs. I think I'm comfortable taking it myself though, and ran in to an ND friend who didn't think it was a problem but wasn't entirely certain about giving it to 11 month old dd.
What's the verdict? Any opinions? Do you/can you give elderberry to wee ones? For what it's worth, I'm fairly certain this is just a cold, not H1N1 or any such thing. It is sweetened with unpasteurized honey, and though we don't give dd honey, I feel fairly comfortable doing so in this format at this point.
I'm curious about the elderberry for babies too.
In your case I would say if it is just a cold then let it run it's course. Colds are colds.
