My 19 month old has a decent cold (cough and nose running like crazy!). He's had these intermittent red blotches on his cheeks that come and go... mostly there at night; Any ideas? They aren't spreading and don't seem to bother him, but they are definate patches with very defined borders. Thoughts?

Maybe post in the allergy forum??? Could they be hives from some sort of allergen?

My 5 month old son also has a cold. cough, congestion...more congestion than anything. Last night he had red patches on his cheeks too. His lips looked very red and his cheeks were super rosy. They went away after about an hour. I thought he was just hot...I dont know though...

I remember making my own very similar post when DD#2 was about 14 mos. old. Someone mentioned at the time that it could just be a "viral rash;" basically a rash that comes from a virus working its way out of the body. She only got it that one time.

Wife to my DH Mama to my two girls  hearts.gif'03 and love.gif '06 and my sweet babyboy.gif 3-'10 I am blessed.

could be fifth's disease - sounds horrrible, but it's just a virus that most of us have had at one point or another - starts like you describe, with cold symptoms and bright red rosy cheeks, then they seem to get better, and a few days later break out in a very distinct, lacy whole-body rash.

The only thing to worry about with it is if a pregnant woman gets it - it can cause problems with the pregnancy if the woman hasn't developed immunity to it (but most women have).
